Making Friends: House of L

As a premier full-service interior design firm, the Cleveland, Ohio-based House of L offers interior and architectural design solutions for residential and commercial projects – and is powered by the enthusiasm and charm of its head designer, Libby Palmieri.  More than just an award-winning Interior Designer, Libby prides herself on being a mother of three, an avid cook and a budding piano player.  But when she’s not attending dance recitals or rolling her own pasta, Libby is working on homes and businesses that feel warm and inviting, but have the polished look that make them photo-ready for any number of home design magazines.

In 2010, House of L completed the construction and install of this Cleveland-area residence – a two-and-a-half year labor of love as Libby remarks.  The home exemplifies her approach to all her projects: “start with the architecture and work through…the bones of the house are what make it so interesting”.  When it came time to specify furnishings for her discerning clients, Libby looked for a consistent quality in the pieces she selected.  Like many of her other projects, this home features Lorts fine furniture because, as Libby comments, “To me, Lorts offers some of the finest finishes in the industry – finishes that make the pieces shine.  That’s why I choose Lorts”.

For the residence, Libby’s favorite Lorts piece – our best-selling cocktail ottoman – is at the center of the home library and serves as both a functional cocktail table and as a tufted ottoman ideal for sitting around or stretching out upon.  Barley-twist counter stools line the wet bar which runs the length of the kitchen, while richly carved dining chairs with complimentary upholstery add weight to the sunlight-filled breakfast nook.  Looking for a truly unique look for the formal dining room, Libby worked with the Lorts custom department and ordered unfinished Bombay chests – later having them hand-painted by local artisans.  Known for our customization capabilities, Lorts was happy to help House of L in the realization of these one-of-a-kind pieces.

But beyond the aesthetic quality of Lorts, when asked what more and more clients are looking for in their interior design projects, Libby hardly hesitates with her response.  “Value…clients want to feel they are getting well-made, affordable pieces and Lorts provides just that – a well-priced line that at the same time offers a plethora of styles and options”.

Finally, Libby comments on what puts Lorts ahead of the competition in today’s furniture industry: “Lorts pieces are functional, comfortable, and very sellable. They get people to say WOW!”
